As an English Lead Practitioner at Chesterton Community College, you will embark on a remarkable journey, shaping the future of English education and empowering students to reach their fullest potential. Working in collaboration with passionate colleagues and under the guidance of the Head of English, your role will encompass:

  • Leading a team of exceptionally talented English teachers, guiding them to deliver captivating lessons that spark intellectual curiosity and ignite a passion for literature and language among our students.
  • Collaborating closely with departmental colleagues to craft innovative schemes of work, lesson plans, and resources that reflect the rich tapestry of Chesterton’s educational ethos and values.
  • Providing expert mentorship and support to colleagues, fostering a culture of professional growth and development that elevates teaching standards and enhances student outcomes.
  • Vigilantly monitoring student progress across all key stages, employing a diverse range of assessment strategies to gain insights into attainment levels and tailor interventions to meet individual learning needs.
  • Serving as a visionary leader within the English department, staying at the forefront of pedagogical advancements and curriculum innovations to ensure that teaching practices remain dynamic and responsive to evolving educational landscapes.
  • Engaging actively with the broader school community, enriching the educational experience through participation in extracurricular activities, parent evenings, and school events that foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant undergraduate degree in English or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in education or leadership is highly advantageous.
  • A demonstrable track record of excellence as an English practitioner, with a proven ability to raise attainment levels and accelerate progress, particularly within the context of a dynamic sixth form environment.
  • Exceptional leadership acumen, coupled with the innate ability to inspire and motivate colleagues to strive for excellence in their teaching practices.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, underpinned by a genuine passion for cultivating positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents alike.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and continuous professional development, with a keen interest in staying abreast of the latest educational trends, policies, and initiatives shaping the landscape of English education.
