Join East Anglia’s “State Secondary School of the Year” 2024
This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading comprehensive schools. Due to the continued expansion of the College, we are looking to recruit a passionate and exceptional Teacher of Latin to work approximately 0.4 – 0.6 FTE. The faculty consists of seventeen teachers across eight languages, and as an IB World School, Languages sits at the heart of the College.
ECTs will be nurtured and developed with an exemplary support package. We would, however, particularly welcome applications from teachers with at least two or three years’ experience who are looking for a new challenge and for the support and coaching needed to prepare for middle and senior leadership roles.
For the right candidate we can offer:
- A £3000 annual recruitment and retention allowance on top of your generous salary
- A reduced teaching load for all staff (maximum 40 hours per fortnight, the equivalent of at least one free period every day)
- One hour a week of subject CPD timetabled into the College day as part of your timetabled allocation, avoiding weekly twilight sessions
- A minimum of one paid ‘family day’ per year to use as you choose, with the possibility of term time leave by negotiation, and the chance to work from home by agreement
- £1000 bursary for personal CPD, including funding for a Masters qualification (or equivalent)
- A genuine commitment to wellbeing, with a strong track record in supporting positive mental health and high levels of staff retention and promotion (twice awarded the Carnegie Gold Medal)
- Subsidised access to our on-site Sports Centre and swimming pool, available for use throughout the day, as well as regular staff social events, discounted food and free coffee/tea
Impington Village College has achieved consistently excellent outcomes for the last seven years. With a truly comprehensive intake, student progress is regularly in the top 5% of all non-selective schools in the country. We are fiercely proud of our inclusive ethos, and in championing an environment in which every student is welcomed and valued, and accommodate nearly 100 students with EHCPs, including many with highly complex needs. Student attainment is exceptionally high, with over 30% of all grades at Grade 8/9 and nearly 50% at 7-9 (or equivalent) in 2022 and 2023. We are also committed to the wider education of our students, with a timetabled enrichment programme for all ages as a core part of our curriculum, as well as over forty hours per week of clubs and activities. We run a fantastic range of overseas trips as far afield as Peru, India, Japan and Botswana.
Latin outcomes at IVC are consistently among the highest nationally for both attainment and progress. Students regularly achieve the top Grade 9s and Latin is taught as both an enrichment class in years 7-8 and then as part of our GCSE programme in years 9-11. We also typically offer enrichment in Classical Civilisations or Ancient Egyptian as part of our iCAS programme, depending on the skillset and interests of the teacher.
You will also be joining us at an incredibly exciting time, as we enter our fourth year of the IB Middle Years Programme at Key Stage 3, and are the first 11-18 state school in the UK to offer three IB programmes.
As part of our international ethos, you can expect to have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and trips; the faculty recently benefitted from a grant of over £1million towards overseas visits, awarded to the College as part of the Turing Scheme, and the College holds the British Council International School Award.
You will be joining an innovative, collaborative and dynamic faculty where staff are highly committed to professional development, engaging with the latest pedagogical research and to developing students’ love of languages. It is a large and growing faculty and you will be very well supported by a number of highly experienced colleagues. There will be numerous opportunities to continue developing your teaching practice, through a range of in-house and external CPD programmes.
With your knowledge and passion for Latin you will have the opportunity to build upon the successful curriculum embedded at IVC and deliver a high quality learning experience to our inspirational students.
